about

Zoe Meyer is a US artist based in Paris, France. She works with moving images, textiles, drawing, and creative writing, and her practice is dedicated to creating a language of intimacy through codification, secrets, and the unsayable.

Zoe’s artistic practice is polyphonic and multimedia. She writes poems in cross-stitch, embroidering up to 10 meters at a time (no poem is planned in advance; instead, words and phrases take shape at the speed of each stitch). She sources found textiles and linens already touched and used by others. She draws fragmented bodies and landscapes and, through extreme retention and reduction, transforms the human figure into a simplified essence of gesture, relationship, and contact. She films in Super 8, then, months later, digitally interposes text. She writes short stories on a typewriter, following fragmented narratives about women, memory, and everyday life.

Zoe is currently an artist in residency with Ateliers Médicis in Paris for the program Création en Cours. She completed her Master’s degree in June 2023 at the Villa Arson in Nice, France, graduating with honors. Before that, Zoe obtained her Bachelor of Arts at Hampshire College with a special focus on photochemical film, video art, and psychoanalysis. Zoe has collaborated with a broad spectrum of artistic associations – including Collectif Jeune Cinéma in Paris, Nomadica in Bologna, and the online catalog movimcat – as a volunteer, curator, and artist.
